Unity Trust Bank has said it lent over £20m to community pharmacies in 2025 as part of its commitment to “supporting organisations that contribute to a better society for all”.
The specialist bank, which describes itself as offering “ethical business bank accounts and loans” to organisations “that deliver positive social impact,” said the 14 loans it made to contractors last year supported 22 pharmacies.
Just over half (51.7 per cent) of total lending went to pharmacies in areas of high deprivation, with the bank’s funding helping to “support the provision of more than three million prescriptions” according to a statement this morning (March 25).
The bank added that “73.4 per cent of lending helped pharmacy customers expand their operations”.
The £20m in lending to pharmacies compared to £17.2m that was lent to dental practices.
Unity’ overall lending in 2025 grew by 12 per cent to £1.1bn, £333m of which comprised new lending.
Unity CEO Colin Fyfe commented: “Frontline healthcare providers like pharmacies, dentists and care homes are essential to make a positive difference to people’s lives.
“Unity’s ‘double bottom line’ strategy is to create positive social impact as well as sustainable returns. I’m proud to say that we deliver this year after year.”
